Paul Gerrard joined forces with B&Q last night at a glittering VIP launch event for the B&Q’s flagship Dubai store, reports Nigel Spickanspan
The ex-Everton keeper gave his seal of approval to his signature shed- the “Gerrard (No,The Other One) Shed” – at the launch, which was attended by a host of VIP investors as well as guest speakers from both his mam and his dad’s side of the family. Speaking about the development, Gerrard said: “I am truly privileged to be part of such a pioneering and prestigious shed. B&Q is one of the top shed developers in the UK – mainly as I don’t know any others – and the vision and quality of the B&Q brand is what inspired me to be part of this new, upcoming development. That, and having somewhere warm to sleep”.
Within minutes of launch, the developer had achieved several interested glances – dramatically bucking overall market trends and indicating continued interest in the shed market both regionally and internationally. The Head of B&Q’s Dubai branch, Allen Key said “We’d been aware of the problems with other high-profile investments. The problem is that it can be so hard to predict; Keane Condoes have been wildly inaccurate and wasteful with their projections, though Fellaini Heights are more comfortable, and are on for 20 bookings a season”.
BKey is confident that Paul Gerrard will prove a safe ambassador for the brand. “Paul is a leader who commands respect and admiration on and off the field and we’re delighted to be working with him. He was Forest’s player of the year in the 2004-05 season. Plus, the kind of bar that he goes into happens to play Phil Collins anyway, you don’t even need to ask”.
Located on Allotment A, Gerrard’s shed is designed to the highest specifications in terms of architectural and environmental standards. Cutting edge insulation is provided by liquidising pies which are then pumped into the wall cavity at high pressure; this keeps the shed warm during trhe cold desert nights, but cool during the day. The gentle pie aroma is an added bonus and one the player is said to be extremely pleased with.
It will also boast a number of special features inspired by the player. It will command its area comfortably, and appear rooted to the ground. Plus, unlike the nearby high-rise Steven Gerrard towers, the shed’s low centre of gravity means that it will not topple under the slightest provocation.
