A Fisted Away January Transfer Window EXCLUSIVE:
Ahead of his move to Eastlands, Wayne Bridge has admitted that he will “do anything for cash, pretty much”, reports Nigel Spickanspan
“There is a lot of tabloid talk surrounding this move” said Wayne, towelling himself down after a session of diving into his bottomless swimming pool of money. “People are saying I am moving for my career, to be playing regularly. But that is not what I’m about. I want the coin. Oh, it’s shiny. What would you like me to do for you, stud?”
The pursuit of cold hard cash has been a constant in the former footballer’s life. Wayne grew up in the ghetto of Southampton. “It was dog eat dog. Getting out of the Portswood hood was the hardest thing. I could have ended up in drugs, crime- I almost fell into football. But it was always about prostitution for me”. The young Wayne was swept off his feet by glamorous pimp Micky “White Chocolate” Adams who set him up with a spot on the left of the docks, making his debut shortly after his 18th birthday, in the process becoming one the oldest prostitutes in Southampton history.
A promising start turning tricks down the West Quay was blighted as Bridge began to find himself being passed over for exotic foreign prostitutes Hassan Kachloul, Patrick Colleter and even Francis Benali, who was not actually foreign but so dirty that everyone assumed he was. Wayne could have become despondent, but dug deep. He impressed a string of pimps, who were aroused by his versatility, athleticism and work rate. Dancing up and down the flank of the quays, he managed a run of 113 consecutive appearances, a record for an outfield prostitute (since surpassed by Frank Lampard).
Bridge’s performances had not gone unnoticed. The bright lights of London beckoned. “My pimp told me about the interest from Chelsea. I was flattered, naturally- anyone would be. For a small-town boy like me, the chance to turn tricks for a wealthy Russian businessman could not be passed up”. However, this shadowy Russian had some strange requests. “He liked me to watch”, Wayne confessed to me. “He only wanted me to sit on a cold hard wooden bench, while he paraded Asier del Horno and Ashley Cole up and down in front of me. I thought it was weird, but hey- as long as I’m getting paid I don’t ask the client why “.
After five years of sitting about in Chelsea, he now feels it is time to move on. “I’m in my slutty prime, and there’s a Welsh man and an Arab who want me to play with a load of Brazilian party boys”.
